Concept "Map" for Research/Methods Class
INITIAL TOPIC: Student-driven learning in a STE(A)M-based
Design-Build Classroom
• Wondering 1: Why is STEM important and why were
the Arts (and other subjects) left out? What is a STEM school really?
• Wondering 2: What is the process for
curriculums adoption/implementation by school districts? Why is a one-sized
fits all strategy our typical course of action?
• Wondering 3: What are the benefits of
student-driven learning and can these be compounded through a hands-on studio
experience involving STEAM components? Could cross grade collaboration help maintain
independence and structure?

Self-Tips: Starting Methods of Research for Capstone
I do quite a bit of research or "due diligence" work on construction projects in the pre-design phase. Usually on building code and master planning/zoning and other entitlement documents. What I've found found to be helpful is to be mindful not so much of what the document says as much as what is doesn't say. The ability to find theexceptions or the negotiable aspects of a particular issue. Interpretations.
I also call up other architects and ask how they handled a similar, if not the same, issue - often the most efficient way to get information is to ask a question. Like Bob said in our summer printmaking studio, don't be afraid. Most actually like being asked about their work - it's not a sign of ignorance, it's more a sign that you don't have time to reinvent the wheel and respect what they did. Remember what Carl Sagan said, "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe." - the futility of it.
Once in awhile I'm faced with a public review and comment period and have to field questions from folks who are pretty darn passionate about they way they feel - prior to these meetings I try and get a handle on what the opposition position is so I don't get stuck like a "deer in the headlights" - to translate that to this class, I mean following the trail of the opposition may lead you to a place that strengthens your own argument or at least provides some clues.

Printmaking with Morgen
I had Mojo (Morgen Joseph = MoJo) run the brayers over a PVC plate as he felt inclined. He then used a couple golf tees to draw a LEGO brick - then put down some paper and used brayers for the transfer - pulled the print and then did the dance of joy!

Personal Art Development - SNEAK PEEK! OMG...
Well, the hits jumped last night to catch a look at my Infographic progress. So I'm guessing I'll get a few hits tonight on this - we'll see.
That little "lazy" voice in my head tells me to just slap together a Word doc with my analysis and toss in a few pic of my artwork. But. I. Can't. No matter what the assignment, I want to go for something I can look back on, rediscover or otherwise be proud to show even in many years from now when I am more experienced and hopefully more skilled. It's not that other work would be "bad" but I want to make something that others would enjoy seeing, reading - experiencing. MAKE IT AN EVENT, NOT AN OBJECT. Anyway, here it is - a couple pages anyway - BIG propts to Adobe InDesign - I started using this program a couple years ago and hated it. Now I know the power and ease of it.
